Government convened an eighth corruption “debate” aired on NCN Channel 11 last night, where Minister of Agriculture Dr. Leslie Ramsammy and former government minister Manzoor Nadir accused the absent opposition of shying away from scrutiny with regard to conflicts of interest on their part.
With moderator Al Creighton mostly quiet during the debate, the two guests faced two empty chairs meant for members of the opposition, who did not show up. Ramsammy and Nadir berated them for their business interests and for opposition to government projects.
They cited the Pegasus Hotel’s owner Robert Badal, who is a member of the Alliance for Change (AFC), saying that because of the fact that his business will face competition from the Marriott, he is opposed to the project.
Yesterday’s broadcast differed from previous ones as there were no comments during the breaks.
The debates have been written off by observers as a staged-managed events designed to ambush members of the opposition.
Main opposition APNU abandoned the debate series after the very first one some months ago.
