I noticed that our honourable president recently presented a large quantity of nets to the Lethem community.
Most likely these nets were either made internationally or in Georgetown. They must be made in very large quantities for the Ministry of Health to distribute freely.
I wonder if our Honourable President is aware that net making is done in a number of Amerindian communities as women’s group activities. They are often of excellent quality.
I urge the president to consider contracting some of these communities to supply nets to the Ministry of Health. It would provide an excellent source of income for these women who often live below the poverty level and find employment opportunities very limited.
