The semi-finals of the Banks DIH sponsored Super 8 League are set for today at the GFC Ground where the winning two teams will contest the final set for next Friday.
In the first match Santos will tackle Sunburst Camptown at 6.30pm followed by the GDF Fruta Conquerors in the feature match from 8.30pm.
President of the Georgetown Football Association Vernon Burnett said the matches will be very exciting as any of the four teams has the potential to advance to the final and emerge victorious.
Santos and Fruta Conquerors were the last two teams to reach the semis. Both secured victories over Northern Rangers and GFC on Wednesday at the GFC Ground, when the final two preliminary matches were played.
In the first match Santos edged out Northern Rangers by a 3-2 margin. Scoring for Santos were Lerone Charles in the 36th and 43rd minutes while Jermaine Fraser, with a blistering header scored the third goal in the 49th minute.
In the 88th minute Northern Rangers Captain Wendell Sthill secured a penalty when he was brought to the ground in the penalty area by Santos’s Jermaine Fraser. The penalty came off the boot of Colin Clarke in the 90th minute.
Meanwhile, the second goal for the Rangers came at the expense of Santos’s goalkeeper who mistakenly pulled the ball he was attempting to save into the box.
In the second match between Sunburst Camptown and GFC, Camptown secured a 2- nil victory over host GFC.
The tournament which started last Friday saw the premier league teams of the football association competing.
