Members of the local justice system as well as relatives and friends of late criminal lawyer Vickramaditya ‘Vic’ Puran said their final goodbyes to him yesterday before his body was cremated.
Puran, who was described as a champion of the profession, died on Monday after his vehicle ended up in a canal at Mahaicony, on the East Coast of Demerara.
There was a viewing of his body at the Merriman’s Funeral Home, before it was driven past the High Court and the Georgetown Magis-trates’ Court.
Scores of persons also turned up at his Barr Street, Kitty home to pay their final respects.
Reports are that Puran left home on Monday afternoon to feed his pigs at his Mahaicony farm. From all indications, when he reached a steep turn at the Mahaicony branch road, he lost control and ended up in the canal.
That day, Puran celebrated his 57th birthday and after he did not return his wife, Amanda, became worried and contacted several of his close friends. She even conducted a search and would have passed the spot where he was eventually found.
A post-mortem later said that he died as a result of drowning.
Before starting his own private practice, Puran, a father of four worked at the chambers of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) as a state
prosecutor. He was also a magistrate for several years.
