Dear Editor,
The problems facing the residents of Lethem are too numerous and diverse to cover in one letter. I will therefore deal only with the electricity problem at this time.
Beginning August this year, Lethem residents have had to put up with extended power outages every single day. I repeat – every single day for the past two months. Power outages have ranged from four hours to eleven hours a day. Now today, Thursday, we have been notified that power will be off twelve hours every day until an unspecified time. We had previously been told also we should not expect 24-hour service until sometime next year.
Despite the fact that taxpayers are footing the salary of a party representative to report problems to the president, he seems oblivious to the frustrations of residents. The people of Lethem have borne this inconvenience with little or no public complaint so far. Perhaps their silence is being mistaken for complacency.
This government has learned nothing from past lessons of public outrage.
Yours faithfully,
Clairmont Lye
