New admission to the bar: Maritha Halley, 24, of Lamaha Springs, was admitted to the Guyana Bar on Monday. Her petition was presented by attorney-at-law Timothy Jonas before Justice Dawn Gregory, a press release said. Halley started her primary education at the Mahaicony Scot School and completed it at the West Ruimveldt Primary School. She then attended St Stanislaus College and the Bishops’ High School.
In 2006 she started her legal studies at the University of Guyana and graduated in 2009 with a Bachelor of Law degree with credit. She entered the Hugh Wooding Law School in 2010 and was awarded her Legal Education Certificate on September 7, 2012. While at the Hugh Wooding school, she was awarded the Trinity Chamber’s Prize for Best Performance in Criminal Practice and Procedure and the RBC Royal Bank foundation Prize for best performance in Probate Practice and Procedure. Halley thanked God, her parents Elroy and Deniese Halley for their support, Pastors Ivan Williams and Neilford Chase and the members of the West Ruimveldt Weslyan Church for their support.
