The third edition of the Georgetown Cricket Association/Noble House Seafoods second division two day competition gets underway today with two games in Zone A and two in Zone B.
In Zone A Guyana National Industrial Corporation takes on Third Class at GNIC. Third Class, who were eliminated from the Queensway Cup by GNIC last weekend, will meet a slightly depleted GNIC second division side, and will be hoping to turn the tables in this format.
Everest Cricket Club is set to play against Vikings at YMCA on Camp Street in the other zone A match. Everest failed to reach the semi final of last year’s tournament, and will seek to finish at the top of their group on this occasion.
In Zone B Malteenoes Sports Club takes on the Muslim Youth Organization (MYO) at MYO. With their first division side already out of the Queensway Cup, some of the younger players such as Nichosie Barker and Kareem Naughton have an opportunity to stake their claim for selection.
The other Zone, promises to be an exciting one as the finalists of the New Building Society limited overs competition meet at the Gandhi Youth Organization. This match should be keenly contested since their last match against each other ended controversially. However, both teams have been the outstanding club sides this season, especially at the youth and second division levels. GCC’s Winston Forrester emerged as one of the top
candidates for the MVP of the Heroes Cup first division tournament, and should be a key player at this level alongside Almando Doman and Devon Lord. For DCC, their young players who recently participated in an all DCC under 19 final will be the key for them. Kemol Savory, Dexter George, Orlando Sturge and company will all be looking to continue to forge reputations for themselves as dependable players.
The winners of this tournament will receive $100, 000, and if the winning team is one of purely second division status then it will be elevated to the first division.
