Firefighters at Parika were called yesterday to the foreshore after a vessel mysteriously caught afire.
No one was injured but vessels nearby quickly sailed to safer areas.
The fire began shortly after 2 pm firemen on the scene said. Residents of the area told Stabroek News that the burned vessel, MV Thoro Glint, had been anchored there for at least three years and no one was sure who the owner was.
They said the fire was noticed by the occupant of a nearby boat who saw a “sudden big blaze”. The fire service was called and quickly responded.
The fire was extinguished but the aged vessel was severely damaged.
