Dear Editor,
Over the past two months seven Stabroek Market stallholders were tracked and at least five were robbed as they reached their homes and were about to exit their vehicles.
These robberies occurred on the East Coast of Demerara at Cummings Lodge, Atlantic Gardens, Mon Repos, Non Pariel and at Eccles, Nandy Park and Herstelling on the East Bank of Demerara. Reports were made to the respective police stations and yet no arrests have been made. Two of the stallholders were licenced firearm holders and both of their weapons were taken, the most recent attack being last Tuesday.
Descriptions of the individuals were given and of their vehicles. The stallholders were tracked on more than one occasion and had to take evasive action so as to not be attacked. There are times when you have your entire family in the vehicle which leaves them traumatized after such an experience.
When will this situation be addressed, were these reports forwarded to the Criminal Investigation Department, is any action being taken, I call on the police to carry out their investigations and make some arrests before someone gets seriously hurt.
Yours faithfully,
