Cabinet Secretary and HPS Dr Roger Luncheon on Thursday announced that Cabinet has green-lighted 10 contracts in several sectors, including one valued $1B in the housing and water sector.
According to a Government Information Agency (GINA) press release, Luncheon made the announcement at his post-Cabinet press briefing on Thursday. The contract in the housing sector is for the construction of roads, drains and structures and the installation of a pure water distribution network at Kilcoy/Chesney, Region Six (seven lots). It is valued $1.015B.
In the education sector a contract valued $34.17M was green-lighted for the rehabilitation of the North West Secondary School in Mabaruma, Region One. Also, a $46.73M contract was given the go-ahead for the supply and delivery of computers and accessories and networking of the laboratories. In addition, no objections were offered for a $17M contract for the extension of the Waramadong Secondary School dormitory.
In the health sector, a $26.80M contract was given the go-ahead for the supply and delivery of laboratory equipment and consumables for the Tuberculosis Programme. Also a $68.5M contract was okayed for the procurement of vehicles (three lots).
In the area of security, no objections were offered for a contract valued $49.96M for the procurement of vehicles for the Guyana Defence Force (seven lots) and a contract valued $176.45M for the procurement of uniforms for the Guyana Police Force.
GINA said, too, a contract valued $15.59M was given the go-ahead for the upgrading of the drainage system at Greenheart Street, Central Mackenzie, Region 10. A $22.58M contract was also given the go-ahead for the repair of hinterland roads in Region Eight.
