(de Ware Tijd) WAGENINGEN — Paradise Oil Company (POC), a Staatsolie affiliate, hopes a profitable strike in the District of Coronie is imminent. The oil company has drilled five wells in the Coronie swamp to the south of the district. ‘We have made the first steps and have found traces of oil, which is very promising. However, we need more data before we can determine Coronie a new oil field’, Patrick Brunings, Operation Manager of POC says. POC is assessing data gathered so far. ‘The geological data is necessary to complete the picture.’
POC will discuss the findings with partner Tullow Oil next month to decide whether or not the project will be continued. There are a number of avenues open to the partners: they could decide on dissolving the partnership and go their separate ways, or continue under the same conditions or shelve the operations for the time being. Asked about the ethanol pilot project in Wageningen, Brunings said that it has yielded good results for Staatsolie. The company is currently studying which varieties are suited best for the project. ‘A final decision on continuation of the project will be taken next year.’ If a positive decision is taken Staatsolie will plant a much larger area with sugar canes.
