Dear Editor,
On 20-10-2012, I decided to go to the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports
Club ground to see a first division match between Albion Cricket Club and Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club. The ground has two stands, the main pavilion and another small stand. I decided to go and sit in the small stand. Editor, to my horror I was greeted by a virtual health and safety hazard.
In the middle of the stand were the steps leading to the top of the stand. Lo
and behold many of the step boards were missing and you had to do a balancing act by walking on the treader board to get into the stand. Also, the few step boards that remained were all loose. There were also loose zinc sheets on top of the roof that were making their own music. Another thing I noticed was that the two sight screens had a small piece of torn black cloth on each of them.
Editor, I know Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club, and especially Mr.
Hilbert Foster, is doing great things for sports generally in Guyana, but I believe charity begins at home and the issues I highlighted in this letter are of great concern to cricket fans. I do hope Mr. Foster will take it in good faith and remedy this situation, because without the cricket fans there will be no cricket.
Yours faithfully,
Imtiaz Baccus
