Kaimattie Sooknanan, the Berbice teacher who succumbed on Saturday as she was being transferred from the New Amsterdam Hospital to Georgetown, died because of haemorrhaging an autopsy that was performed yesterday stated.
The woman’s husband, Raj Sooknanan, told this newspaper yesterday that officials from Health Ministry are yet to make contact with him regarding his wife’s death. He is also still awaiting an answer as to why his wife was transferred from New Amsterdam to Georgetown without his knowledge.
Kaimattie delivered a healthy baby boy by c-section at the New Amsterdam Hospital on Friday but died on Saturday as she was being transferred to Georgetown Hospital. Her baby is in a healthy condition at the Georgetown Hospital and is expected to be discharged today.
The woman’s husband also said he was informed that someone went to the hospital to collect his child yesterday. He said he did not know who the person was, but he is asking officials at the institution not to hand over his baby to anyone but him.
Meanwhile, Kaimattie’s family is making arrangements for her to be cremated on Wednesday.
