Unknown persons broke into the Excise Licensing and Motor Vehicle Registration office, Smyth and Princes streets over the weekend resulting in a disruption of service. The Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) in a press release apologised to the score of persons who were affected as a result of the closure of the office.
It stated that services will be “up and running” as per normal today.
According to the release, Senior Manager of the Licence Revenue Office (LRO) Wayne Austin explained that there was a disruption of service owing to theft following a break-in. No information was given as to what was stolen.
“Consequently the Liquor, Trade and Miscellaneous and Diver’s Licensing services were disrupted as officials at the LRO were in the process of facilitating the police investigation into the robbery,” the release said.
GRA Commissioner General Khurshid Sattaur had earlier told Stabroek News that he had been apprised of an attempt to break into a safe at the facility. Sattaur who is on leave said he was not privy to all of the details.
