Guyanese born international recording artiste Elcock Jhayee, who has recorded a “contemporary version” of Guyana’s National Anthem, yesterday presented a CD of his recordings to Minister of Culture Dr Frank Anthony.
According to a GINA press release, the singer is currently on a tour in the Caribbean and paid a courteous visit to the minister.
The release said Jhayee told the minister that persons have been appreciating his contemporary version of the anthem and he has been asked to sing it in a number of places in the United States.
Minister Anthony said in his remarks that Guyana has a lot of talented people who are not known because they are not coming in the spotlight. The minister also added that he believes that every artiste should showcase their talent so that persons locally and internationally can know about talented persons in Guyana while expressing appreciation for the artiste’s return to Guyana. He also said that he is proud that Jhayee is letting it be known around the world that he is Guyanese, the release stated.
Jhayee grew up in Guyana but moved to New York where he pursued music. His songs have been heard on radio in countries such as Canada, England, France, Australia, Japan and New Zealand, the release said.
