Mohammed “Nanko” Shariff’s California Strike romped to victory in Sunday’s feature C class event when the Norman Singh Memorial Turf Club in collaboration with the Jumbo Jet Stable held a one-day race meet at No 6, Bel Air West Coast Berbice.
The win was worth $1.2M top price and the Banks DIH trophy. Second place in the 1400m event went to Got to Go with Scores Even and The Message third and fourth respectively.
In what could be termed another upset, Rock Sonna, of the Singh’s Stable, won the three-year-old race for Guyana and West Indies bred horses, a win which was worth $500,000.
Settle in Seattle settled for second place while Red Cloud and Windy War were third and fourth in the 1400M event.
The two-year-old race for West Indies bred horses saw Its My Turn of the Jumbo Jet Stable, taking its turn in winning the $400,000 first prize along with a trophy in the 1200M event.
Gold Rush, Princess Alicia and The Wild Grinder, occupied the next three places.
War Craft of the Crawford Stable, won $450,000 by beating the field in the E3 and lower 1200M event.
Top of the Line, Captain Crook and Majestic, were second, third and fourth respectively.
The two-year-old race for Guyana bred horses over 1100m was won by Silent Night
from She’s So Special, Easy to Win and Lucky Gold.
The win was worth $300,000 and a trophy.
Also winning $300,000 and a trophy was Top of the Line in the G class 1200M event. Bridal Stone corner, De Girl Them Sugar and Treacle took the next three places.
The Gum was the winner of the I1 and Lower 1200M race with Pixie Fire, Mona Lisa and Royal Time placing second, third and fourth respectively. The winner collected $150,000 and a trophy while Wonder Flower won $120,000 in the J&K event from Diplomat, MC Gyver 11 and Windy Killer.
Yap Drepaul was declared the top jockey and the Jumbo Jet Stable, the top stable.
