The Scout Association of Guyana is inviting the public to participate in a roster of activities it has planned to celebrate its 103rd anniversary this month.
According to a press release from the association, scouts from across the country will set up camp at its headquarters on Friday to start its major programme on Saturday. This includes a parade around Georgetown at 8.30 am and a fun day and barbecue for the public.
District Commissioner Dominique Van Sluytman said that in addition to celebrating its anniversary, the activities have been designed to teach the public about scouting. “We are very excited to be holding these various activities to mark our anniversary… We would also like members of the public to come out and enjoy the celebrations, and hopefully, young people themselves will be encouraged to come on board by joining the association.”
Following the fun day, a candle-light parade will be held at 6.30 pm from the scout’s headquarters to Parade Ground, where the association will host a camp fire. The public is invited to participate.
The activities will come to a close on October 28 with an interfaith service, lunch and award ceremony for Best Campsite Development and Best Camp Gateway.
