Bachelor’s Adventure well causing Dazzel water woes

The Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) said yesterday that water woes being experienced by residents of Dazzel Housing Scheme, Paradise were attributable to operational difficulties at the Bachelor’s Adventure Well Station.

This was stated in a press release in response to an article published in the October 20 edition of the Stabroek News titled, ‘No running water for days in Dazzel Housing Scheme’.

An angry resident of the housing scheme had told this newspaper that in August of this year, GWI was seen conducting works on the well located in that area.

The resident who asked not to be named stated that on inquiring GWI staff revealed that the work was being done to improve the supply of water to the community. Another resident lamented that since the work was completed in August the flow of water he had become accustomed to was no longer being experienced. Residents stated that water woes included no water for as much as six days at a time, low water pressure, and rusty/murky water which had to be used to cook and bathe. Some residents indicated that they had to resort to purchasing bottled water to facilitate their drinking and cooking needs.

According to the release, GWI Divisional Operations Manager, East Coast Demerara (ECD) Orlando Benjamin conducted an outreach programme on Saturday, October 20 and Sunday October 21 in which he informed affected customers that the service disruption was due to operational difficulties at the Bachelor’s Adventure Well Station, which serves a significant section of Dazzel. Benjamin explained that blocked screens in the well were the main cause of the problem.

Residents had previously stated that though they had made countless complaints to GWI concerning the water supply, they were told on several occasions that nothing was wrong with the well responsible for water supply to that area.

The release further stated that the GWI East Coast team is currently modifying the network serving the community so as to provide relief until repairs to the Bachelor’s Adventure Well Station is completed.
