Bids for the construction of a long awaited alternative access road for the Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara were opened on Tuesday by the National Procurement and Tender Administration Board (NPTAB).
An engineer’s estimate of $755,237,552 has been given for the construction of the 2 kilometer-long road, divided into three lots: Lot 1, $181,942,306; Lot 2, $365, 025,013; and Lot 3, $208,270,233. The road is to be linked from the West Bank Public Road at Goed Fortuin stretching into Parfaite Harmonie. The roadway is also pivotal in easing commuter traffic woes to residents in the new communities of Onderneeming, Schoonord and Westminster nearby.
The building of the roadway is the product of a consultation last year between residents and Minister of Housing and Water Irfaan Ali, who promised that the problem would be rectified after this year’s budget preparation. They had complained that the current main access, the Canal Number 1 Public Road, is congested during peak hours and the long waiting is usually unbearable.
Ten companies submitted bids to build the road: Kemraj Nauth Contracting (Lot 1, $214,341,590; Lot2, $383,346,668; and Lot3 $188,532,641); Linden Holding Inc (which submitted bids for Lot 1, $133,640,155; and Lot 3, $192,266,920); Courtney Benn Contracting Services Ltd (which also only bid for Lot 1, $370,619,480; and Lot 3, $211,819,443); Compustruct (Lot 1, $109,148,963); BK International (Lot 1, $108,223,137; Lot 2, $292,084,265; and Lot 3, $173,342,343); Geico Construction (Lot 1, $161,146,912; Lot 2, $328,309,712; and Lot 3 $195,163,925); Eagle Transportation & General Contracting Inc (Lot 1, $244,333,595; Lot 2, $375,083,885; and Lot 3, $248,629,930); N.
