BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, CMC- Sir Wesley Hall, the former West Indies fast bowler and cricket legend, was presented with the insignia of Knighthood Tuesday after being named in the Queen’s birthday honours list in June.
Sir Wesley received the insignia of Knighthood during a morning ceremony at Government house after being dubbed ceremonially by Governor General Sir Elliott Belgrave.
The iconic fast bowler of the l960s has been made a Knight Bachelor for his “contribution to sport and the community” in an 11-year test cricket career.
He served as the minister for tourism and sports in the Erskine Sandiford administration in the late 1980s and early 1990s and has been credited for developing the sports tourism industry in Barbados.
Sir Wesley’s children Dr Kerry Hall and Sean Hall, as well as former team mates Sir Garfield Sobers, Charles Griffith and Rawle Brancker were among those congratulating him on his achievement.
The cricket legend has earned himself a place in the West Indies Cricket Hall of Fame as the first West Indian to take a hat-trick in a Test match a feat he achieved against India in his first match in 1958.
