A brick prison for the Camp Street jail and groynes for the mangrove project in regions two and three were among 13 contracts cleared by Cabinet this week.
According to a Government Information Agency (GINA) press release, five tenders were green-lighted in the security sector for the procurement of equipment and furniture for the Ministry of Home Affairs, $24.08M; the procurement of communication equipment for the Guyana Police Force (GPF), $31.72M; the construction of the brick prison (phase one) at Camp Street; $50.93M; the delivery of motor vehicles for the GPF, Guyana Fire Service and the home ministry’s secretariat valued $17.87M. A contract for the procurement of military kits for the Guyana Defence Force valued $42.86M was also given the go-ahead.
In the public works sector a contract for the docking and repairs of the MV Kimbia valued $23.79M was also green-lighted. Another for the rehabilitation of and construction of miscellaneous roads (14 lots) in Region Six, valued $506.59M was also okayed.
No objections were offered for a contract valued $63.35M for the construction of 35 core houses at Belle West (phase two) and Recht-Door-Zee (phase two), GINA said. In addition, in the energy sector, no objections were offered for a US$473,081 contract for the procurement of smart metering systems; in agriculture one contract valued $86.54M was green-lighted for the construction of rubble-mound groynes for the Mangrove Project in regions two and three and in the natural resources sector one valued $27.54M was okayed for the erection of the Tukeit Guest House and warden/caretaker quarters at the Kaieteur National Park in Region Eight.
In the area of culture, no objections were offered to a $26.24M contract for the building of the 1823 monument base at Carifesta Avenue, while in ICT a $16.38M contract for the procurement of vehicles for the E-governance project was given the go-ahead.
