An ice cream salesman was arraigned on an assault charged before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry yesterday, based on the allegation that he attacked his wife with a broom after a misunderstanding between them.
It was alleged that on October 23, in Georgetown, Ron Reynolds, 38, unlawfully assaulted his common-law wife Michelle Roberts, causing her bodily harm.
Reynolds pleaded not guilty to the charge.
According to Prosecutor Winneth Hubbard, the couple had misunderstandings which led to a fight and Reynolds took a pointer broom and started to hit Roberts, causing injuries.
Hubbard noted that Roberts reported the matter to the Alberttown Police Station, after which Reynolds was arrested and charged.
The prosecution had no objections to bail but conditioned that Reynolds remove from the house pending the determination of the matter.
The magistrate then released the accused on $30,000 bail and placed him on a bond to keep the peace, pending the determination of the matter. Reynolds was also ordered to undergo counselling.
The case was adjourned until November 30, when it will be called for reports and fixtures.
