Today is designated Redemption day by the Guyana Boxing Board of Control whose Redemption boxing card takes place tonight at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
For former WBC title holder Wayne ‘Big Truck’ Braithwaite, tonight’s card is of special significance as fight fans are anxiously awaiting to see whether he can redeem himself after his first round knockout at the hands of Babarbadian Shawn Cox earlier this year.
Braithwaite will be fighting Trinidad-based Shawn Corbin tonight for the vacant CABOFE cruiserweight title.
The two boxers are very familiar with each other having been sparring partners earlier in their boxing careers in Trinidad. Since those days Braithwaite went to become a world champion leaving Corbin in Trinidad.
Another interesting fight this evening will be between Clive Atwell and Trinidadian Prince-Lee Isidore. Both fighters have the highest respect for each other but, despite that respect, they are at the heights of the careers with both having the potential to be world champions. The two will battle for the CABOFE super lightweight title.
Also, in the ring tonight, will be Richard Williamson, a young professional fighter from Berbice, in his first international fight. He will be going up against Rudolph Hedge of Jamaica. Hedge initially was set to fight Elton ‘Coolie Bully’ Dharry, but Dharry at last minute informed the Guyana Boxing Board that he was recovering from the flu and would not be able to face the Jamaican.
But according to reports, the Hedge/Williamson fight is still in limbo as Hedge was unable to leave Jamaica since flights from that island were suspended because of Hurricane Sandy.
Other fights on the card tonight are: Quinda Rogers facing Sharon Warde, Dexter Marques and Randolph Fraser and Edmond DeClou and Kelsey George.
