Noble House Seafoods second division competition…
By Neil Barry Jr.,
The Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) Noble House Seafoods second division two-day competition continues this weekend with one game in Zone A and three in Zone B.
The tournament began in exciting fashion last weekend when Third Class completed an outright win against Guyana National Industrial Corporation (GNIC) late on the final evening while the Muslim Youth Organization (MYO) whipped Malteenoes Sports Club by six wickets to round off a positive weekend for the clubs seeking first division standard.
This weekend the University Of Guyana (UG) will look to continue that trend. Challenged with the prospect of winning a second division tournament in order to achieve first division playing status, UG came up short in last year’s final and must once again endure the process with similar guile and enthusiasm in order to cross the final hurdle.
They are set to play the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) at their Turkeyen Campus, and will take note that last year’s champions, GNIC, have already lost their first game outright to Third Class.
In the lone Zone A fixture the Vikings, who lost by an innings to Everest last weekend, will take on GNIC at YMCA on Camp Road. GNIC will also be seeking redemption from their first round loss to Third Class when the all round efforts of Alvin Castello led his team to an outright victory.
In Zone B, the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) will take on the Gandhi Youth Organization at GYO.
DCC won first innings points against rivals GCC last weekend and will be confident of a good showing against the home team.
The Muslim Youth Organization (MYO) is set to face off with the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) at MYO in Woolford Avenue. MYO will be looking to continue in winning vein after dispatching Malteenoes Sports Club last weekend while GCC will be aiming to prove they are not as susceptible to upsets. The young GCC side has been impressive at this level having already bagged the limited overs title this year.
Matches commence at 11 hours each day and puritanical supporters of cricket can come out to witness Guyana’s next generation hone their skills in the longer format as is the wish of the sponsors, who are in their third year in involvement with this competition.
