Call me a hypocrite now.
For months, I have spoken out about how we as a people should never kick our local artists. I have implored that we not try to change our music, our language, our culture or anything that makes us the unique people that we are. But this so-called music, this abomination that is “The Bamzy Song” is a slap in the face to everything Guyanese that I stand for.
I do not, would not and could never support such idiotic words. There is no art in the music and it makes no lyrical sense! How someone can even produce this is a mystery. This is way past desperation. Can you believe there is a song solely for the ‘bamzy’? An actual production of ‘art’ for one man’s heinous views of what the backside is?
As if the regional music industry does not degrade women enough, this song puts the repulsing icing on top of the already ghastly cake. If there is anything that would make me disown this country, it is this song, the person who sang it and the ones who produced it.
Honestly, some people have way too much time on their hands.
What is even more ridiculous is that someone can actually laugh at this level of absurdity. The song is being shared on phones as if it is the next big hit. And rumour has it that it was even on the radio. But I dismissed this since I believe that even radio producers cannot be so desperate.
Here are some views of the general public posted on the video’s YouTube page:
“This is totally outrageous. I must say this is by far the most embarrassing song about women.” – Kellecia Joseph.
“When this type of music becomes popular in a good way then society seriously needs to check itself.” –guerrillasneeded
“Distasteful, disrespectful, despicable, derogatory, embarrassing but humorous… misrepresents my people and paints a sorry picture for others to further judge us… guess any publicity is good publicity…” – bankerdaddy81
Of course there are some people who expressed their love for the song but with 5000 viewers, 21 dislikes and 15 likes… the majority has it. Funny or not the song is trash!
Sure any publicity is good publicity but the last thing I want to do is to encourage this song or the artiste, Music (like all other art forms) is subjective – what I may like, you don’t and vice versa but really?
The song is out there for the world to see and of course countries like Trinidad, Barbados and Jamaica are laughing at us.
We as a people don’t have to impress them, we are abundant in resources but surely we are also saying we are limited if we can come up with something like “The Bamzy Song”.
Call me a hypocrite now!
I know there is worse music out there but to digest that a Guyanese would even think up such garbage is beyond my capacity as a proud citizen. My condolences to the people who have lost their modesty and intellect. (Jairo Rodrigues)
