Sansevieria commonly called Mother-in-law’s tongue or Snake plant originated in Africa. If all else fails, grow Sansevieria. This hardy, tough plant has earned its reputation for near indestructibility. It can be grown in full sunshine outside, or indoors.
The most popular variety is S trifasciata lauretii with sword like, tall and upright leaves, with golden edges. There is also a green variety called S trifasciata.
This is an excellent foliage plant for any group of potted plants or cluster of plants.
There is also a dwarf variety consisting of low-growing rosettes. S Golden hahnil has rosettes with golden edges, while the rosettes of S hahnil are dark green.
Sansevieria make excellent potted plants for homes, offices or even window sills. Grown under proper conditions sprays of small flowers will appear on these plants. You should water them sparingly, allowing the soil to dry out slightly. Over-watering will cause the plants to rot. Repot them once per year, and divide the
plant into half if its pot is too clustered. Fertilize with Osmocote Slow Release.
Until next week, Happy Gardening!
