A man was fatally stabbed at Patentia, West Bank Demerara, after an argument between him and another man over beef on Friday night.
Dead is 52-year-old Yusuf Sadeek, who was found with stab wounds to his neck, chest and face, by a man who went to the house. Sadeek’s attacker, with whom he used to live and who has only one leg, is in police custody assisting with the investigations.
The police said in a press release yesterday that the incident occurred around 00:05 hrs while Sadeek and another man were imbibing. The release added that an argument then ensued between Sadeek and the other man during which Sadeek was stabbed in the chest. He was pronounced dead on arrival at the West Demerara Regional Hospital.
Sadeek, who was convicted about ten years ago for murdering his brother, Neezam, was released from prison a few years ago, his relatives said. He was abandoned by his family after he came out of prison. His brother, Raymond Sadeek, said that his brother had no fixed place of abode and did odd jobs around the community. The house where the incident occurred is frequently visited by “junkies“ in the community, the brother added.
Neighbours could not recall hearing any sounds coming from the building and only learned about the incident when the police visited the house yesterday. One neighbour said that the men had been drinking in the house earlier and shortly after that they got into an argument. It was during the course of the argument that Sadeek was stabbed with a knife by his assailant.
Sadeek’s brother, who is the only sibling alive, said that he and Sadeek did not get along owing to the fact that he had murdered his own brother. Raymond also stated that Sadeek was of bad character and this too had influenced the relationship he had with him.
Sadeek was last seen alive by his brother on Friday night. Raymond related that “he pass hey last night drunk an call.” He said he received a call yesterday morning informing him that his brother had died after he was involved in an argument with the man he had been living with over beef they had received for Eid.
When asked if he went to the scene he responded, “Me nah go yet and me nah go… me and he nah ’gree so me nah go, ’cause dah man nah been gud.” His brother also related that he is contemplating whether he would take care of the funeral arrangements.
Sadeek has one daughter alive but his family does not know her whereabouts.
