An autopsy on the Canadian man, who was shot the same time that Ricardo Rodrigues was slain on October 15th last, is expected to be performed today at the Georgetown Public Hospital morgue.
Sources told Stabroek News that the Canadian High Commission (CHC) will be looking after the interest of the dead man’s family.
Jean Pierre Le Blanc died last week Friday in the High Dependency Unit of the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation after a rapid deterioration in his condition, raising questions about his security and the sudden cause of his death.
He had been shot in his buttocks and also suffered a fractured hip in his bid to avoid the bullets but had been in a stable condition ever since his admission on the day of the shooting.
Following the shooting, the Canadian had continuously expressed his desire to return home to seek advanced medical care but this was hindered by the fact that the police had taken possession of his passport, his wallet with credit cards and according to him $1600 in Canadian currency.
Police were able only to take an oral statement from him the day before he died. He had said that he had asked the ranks if when he gave them the statement whether his documents would be returned but was told that “they could not promise me that”. The man had desperately wanted police to return his passport and cash so that he could also collect his belongings from a hotel and clear his debts before he returned home. The hotel on hearing of his plight and also receiving correspondence from the CHC had acquiesced to his request to have his stay cancelled.
Two other persons were also shot, a local gym instructor, Aubrey Henry, and Jamaican Michael Hutchinson.
The gym instructor was treated and later discharged. He is recovering and with therapy says that he will be back on his job in a few weeks. The Jamaican man took his own discharge and has apparently left Guyana.
