Flight of Hope Ministries has pledged continued support two hinterland athletes, Doretta Wilson and Samuel Kaitan.
Orlando Charles, Founder and Director of Flight of Hope Ministries says his organization is pleased to lend support to the two athletes given their performances in the past.
“I learnt of these two athletes from the Region 9 District and knew that in the past they have performed exceptionally well and because of the lack of support they are unable to effectively pursue athletics,” he said.
Charles, who donated a pair of running shoes to Wilson and a water bottle to Kaitan, said he will continue to make donations to the two.
According to Charles, who is also a pilot, he is aware of the distance the two athletes have to travel in order to compete in Georgetown and that was the motivating factor to make the donation.
His organization, he said, was in operations for some three years and has made donations of school supplies to hinterland residents.
Both Wilson and Kaitan, in accepting the donations, said they were grateful and welcomed Charles’s pledge of continued support.
Wilson and Kaitan recently participated in the Junior South American 10K.
Kaitan, who finished the raced despite injuries was not among the medalists while Wilson finished second behind Jevina Straker.
The conservative Wilson who was out of athletics for over a year, said she is back to the sport.
The 19-year-old who now resides in Lethem said she will be back at training and also furthering her education. Both Wilson and Kaitan are being managed by sports advocate Brian Rodrigues.
