A labourer, allegedly found with six grammes of marijuana during a police search, was yesterday arraigned on a drug possession charge.
It is alleged that on October 26 in Georgetown, Quincy Reid, 20, of Lot 12 Yarrow Dam, was released on $50,000 bail by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
Reid pleaded not guilty to the offence of possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking.
The prosecution stated that on October 26, around 9.45 pm, a police patrol saw Reid walking on a street and stopped him and conducted a search.
According to Prosecutor Kerry Bostwich, a transparent plastic bag filled with leaves and stems suspected to marijuana was found in his right side pants pocket.
Bostwich added that Reid was subsequently arrested and charged with the present offence.
After the prosecution had no objections to bail, the magistrate set it at $50,000 and adjourned the case to November 1 for reports and fixtures.
