Senior players Loris Nathoo and Maria Thomas with three points after three rounds, lead the Uniparts-sponsored senior chess qualifiers following play last weekend at the Kei-Shar’s Sports Club on Hadfield Street.
The two players will meet this afternoon in round four of the championships.
Former national chess champion Kriskal Persaud of Berbice follows closely on two and one half points while Frankie Farley, Craig Sylvester, Alexander Duncan and Glenford Corlette are on two points each.
Roberto Neto and Haatram Parbat are on one and a half points each while six other players are on one point each or less.
The tournament, organized by the Guyana Chess Federation (GCF) is to arrive at the challengers for the senior Closed national chess championships where national champion Taffin Khan, will be defending his title.
Fifteen chess players are participating in the qualifiers among them past president of the Guyana Chess Federation Errol Tiwari, newly crowned 2012 junior champion Anthony Drayton and fellow player Neto.
