The Civil Defence Commission (CDC) is conducting Disaster Risk Management (DRM) training for regional representatives over the next two months, having just concluded a session for 80 regional representatives at the Region Six Regional Democratic Council (RDC).
In a press release, the CDC said the representatives from both government and NGOs benefited from training in Shelter Management, Damage Assessment and Emergency Operations Centre Management at the sessions. Thirty persons were trained as Emergency Shelter Managers; 26 in Damage Assessment; and 24 as Emergency Operations Centre Managers. The training concluded with evaluations and exercises that were used to measure the participants understanding of the material covered at the sessions.
The CDC also presented to the RDC an emergency box containing maps, states/charts, stationery and other resources needed to effectively activate and operate the Emergency Operation centre during a disaster.
In November, the CDC will be hosting similar training sessions in regions Seven and Ten and in December, in Region One. At the end of the current training calendar, six regions—One, Three, Four, Six, Seven and Ten—would have benefited from DRM training.
The sessions are designed to ensure that there are trained persons in every region equipped with the necessary expertise and who can function effectively in disaster situations.
