The Guyana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) is one of several associations that will be sending athletes to compete in the XVIII South American School Games in Brazil in November/ December this year.
This was disclosed by Director of Sports Neil Kumar last Friday at the closing ceremony of the GTTA/Digicel sponsored schools’ teams table tennis tournamnent at the National Gymnasium.
Kumar revealed that Guyana will be represented by over 150 athletes at the November 28-December 7 games.
Acting president of the GTTA, Godfrey Munroe yesterday said he was extremely pleased at the opportunity afforded the GTTA to expose some of its more talented players.
He pointed out that the event, though an Intern-ational Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) sanctioned tournament, is not being run under the usual ITTF age requirements but will cater for table tennis players within the 12-14 years bracket.
Munroe said the TT team will consist if two boys and two girls and will be played under the old Corbillon Cup format.
The players will be accompanied by a delegate.
According to Munroe the team is still to be finalized.
