Three players Loris Nathoo, Maria Thomas and former national men’s champion Kriskal Persaud of Berbice are in the lead after four completed rounds of the Guyana Chess Federation (GCF) Uniparts qualifying championships following play on Tuesday at the Kei-Shars Sports Club, Hadfield Street.
In the key matches Thomas and Nathoo who were in the lead with the maximum three points after three rounds drew their top-of-the-table clash while Persaud, on two and a half points before Tuesday’s match, defeated Alexander Duncan share the lead.
The points standings after four rounds read: Loris Nathoo, Maria Thomas and Kriskal Persaud 3 1/2 points each, Frankie Farley and Glenford Corlette three points each, Haatram Parbat 2 ½ points, Craig Sylvester, Alexander Duncan, Shiv Nandalall and Anthony Drayton two points each. Five players are on less than two points.
The qualifying tournament is being conducted by the GCF to determine the top seven players to compete in the 2012 Closed National Senior Championship and challenge reigning senior champion Taffin Khan.
The qualifiers will resume today at the same venue.
