The driver of a Suzuki Jeep, PFF 3479, was hospitalised after his vehicle slammed into a Toyota Allion, PPP 5185, at the intersection of Camp and Quamina streets at about 14:00 hrs on Wednesday.
According to the driver of the Allion, at the time of the accident he was moving north along Camp Street when the Jeep which was heading in an easterly direction “dashed” out of Quamina Street and broadsided his vehicle. The man said that there were three people in the car at the time of the accident. The force of the Jeep’s impact was so forceful that both vehicles were moved from the centre of the intersection where the accident reportedly occurred into the entrance of the avenue between Quamina and Church streets, destroying most of the concrete bollards that once stood there.
When Stabroek News arrived on the scene one of the passengers of the Allion was attempting to speak to the driver of the Suzuki who was alone in the car when the accident occurred. The man, who was crying out for pains in his sides, seemed unfocused and appeared to be in a state of shock. As such he was unable to respond with clarity to any questions directed at him. This seemed to frustrate a passenger of the Allion who was trying to find out how the damage to his vehicle would be rectified.
Shortly after the accident, a man who claimed to be a workmate of the injured man showed up and attempted to take him to the hospital, but decided against it after being cautioned that moving the injured man might lead to further injuries.
The man therefore called an ambulance which came subsequently and took the man to the hospital. The passenger of the Allion followed him and his co-worker to the hospital. “He gotta tell me how he gonna pay for dis. He ain’t gonna get away from me,” he said.
According to persons who witnessed the mishap, the Jeep was at fault. “If yuh see de speed da man come out ah deh wid. He ain’t even stop to see if something did comin up de road,” said one man.
Another man stated “you ain’t see how far he carry da man car? Da accident happen till over deh and dey reach till ova here. He did powerin tru. Dem man did wild bad ah tell yuh.”
