The Guyana Bank for Trade and Industry is to open a branch in Port Kaituma, Region One.
A GINA press release today said that a multi-purpose complex building will house GBTI, the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission and the Guyana Gold Board.
Yesterday, representatives of the entities held a meeting with residents of Port Kaituma and its sub-regions to update them on the progress of the work.
A sod turning exercise was then done to begin construction, GINA said.
Chief Executive Officer, GBTI, John Tracey lauded the support of the Natural Resources Minister who made the venture possible, GINA added.
Prior, to the decision to construct a bank in the Region, research was done, according to Tracey. “We didn’t just wake up one morning and decided to construct another branch. It came about after careful consideration and research conducted in the community and business levels,” he said.
GINA said that the move came in for high praise from President of the Guyana Women Miners Organisation, Simona Broomes and President of the GGDMA, Patrick Harding.
Meanwhile, Regional Chairman Paul Pierre in welcoming the move, said that such an investment will significantly add to the many developments evident in the region.
GINA said that while the GGMC’s and Guyana Gold Board’s services will commence with the completion of the building, Region One residents can access banking services from January 2, 2013, with the setting up of a temporary office.
