Dear Editor,
It is with utter disgust and frustration that I pen this letter to you pertaining to the lack of cashiers to serve customers at the Guyana Power and Light on Main Street. Editor there are several cashier booths at this location and on my last visit (last week) there were only two cashiers serving customers. One doesn’t have to be a rocket scientist to know that towards the end of the month the number of persons transacting business would increase.
This was not the first time I observed such a situation and I’m quite sure that others would have experienced the same. Whilst waiting in the queue more people kept pouring in to conduct business and I’m quite sure that these customers would have had other appointments/engagements before the day was over.
The sad and hurtful part was the fact that our senior citizens weren’t spared the long wait. As a result of this they were forced to leave and probably return to conduct their business at a later date. It was quite noticeable that these folks made the effort to get their bills paid so as to avoid disconnection, despite not being able bodied.
This is totally repugnant and outright disrespectful to the elderly. It only adds insult to injury, since we are often affected by constant power outages and now to add fuel to the fire, we are confronted with the situation where only two cashiers are available at peak time to serve customers. For the citizenry to be treated like this leaves much to be desired.]
GPL needs to address this issue expeditiously and to implement a better system so to improve their service to the public.
Yours faithfully,
Abiola Whyte
