Senior player Frankie Farley defeated Maria Thomas on Thursday in the Guyana Chess Federation (GCF) Uniparts-sponsored Chess Qualifiers to be among the leaders at the end of the fifth round which ended at the Kei-Shar’s Sports Club.
Farley shares the lead with former national champion, Kriskal Persaud, Loris Nathoo and Glenford Corlette.
They are all on four-and-a-half points while Thomas occupies the fifth position with three and a half. The final two rounds are scheduled for tomorrow when top seven performers to participate in the 2012 Closed senior championship will be determined.
The top five players are followed by Shiv Nandalall and Anthony Drayton on three points each, Haatram Parbat and Roberto Neto on two and a half points and Craig Sylvester, Errol Tiwari, Alexander Duncan and Chino Chung on two points each.
National champion Taffin Khan is not participating in the competition.
