The Ministry of Labour and the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission (GGMC) have launched an investigation into the claims of two cooks, who say they were taken into the Omai Backdam to work by a dredge owner who has refused to pay them for months of labour.
Vashawn Hopkinson and Dalieann Joseph were brought out of area on Saturday by the Guyana Women Miners’ Organisation (GWMO) with the help of the Ministry of Natural Resources and the Environment and the police.
