The 24th exhibition of the Guyana Women Artists’ Association (GWAA) opened at the National Library yesterday as the association celebrated 25 years in operation.
The exhibition will continue daily until Saturday from 9 am to 4.30 pm. Exhibits such as clothing, paintings, ceramics and jewellery made by women in the association, will be on display.
Speaking at the simple ceremony yesterday, President of GWAA Jynell Osborne noted that the association provides an opportunity for women to earn an income, learn, travel and gain experience while showcasing their creativity.
The exhibition was declared opened by Yvonne Hinds, wife of Prime Minister Sam Hinds, who told those in attendance that artists are no less important than other professions in society. She also added that GWAA provides an opportunity to inspire and learn.
GWAA is the first organisation in Guyana and the Caribbean that is mandated to support the creative output of women involved in the visual arts.
