The donation was made at the store’s location, Water Street.
The cheque was handed over to skipper of DCC, Christopher Barnwell by Marketing Manager of Giftland, Compton Babb in the presence of Kashif Amsterdam, treasurer of DCC and Marthel Semple, a member of the club.
The tournament, which will be held on Tuesday at the DCC ground, Queenstown, promises to be fun-filled and exciting.
According to Babb this is the first time that the company has made a donation to the club.
He said donations aimed at giving back to the nation or supporting a worthy cause are endorsed by the company.
Babb said that the initiative for this donation was to develop and encourage youths to participate in sports.
“This is not the first time we are giving to cricket, neither the first time for sports. We are always there to lend a helping hand to assist and develop local talents, generally in sports for our country,” Babb declared.
Semple said this is the first “Day of Sports“and tournament staged by the club and all are invited. He added that some of the activities will include athletics, five-a-side football, basketball and of course cricket.
According to Semple, there will be prizes for persons who have excelled in each discipline.
Barnwell stated that DCC will be playing a T20 match against a combination of players from other clubs which he said will be interesting since the DCC members are maintaining that they cannot be beaten in the particular tournament.
“That will be an interesting game, exciting and also challenging so we will be prepared for that match,” a smiling Barnwell stated.
He added:“I think that everyone should come out and support the cricket club since there will be youths showcasing their talents not just cricketing wise but also in other different sports.
Some of the other sponsors are Ansa McAl and Nigel’s Supermarket. (Yonalla Dalrymple)
