Retrieve Raiders and Amelia’s Ward Jets secured their places in the semifinals of the BOSAI Minerals Group (Guyana) Incorporated Open challenge basketball championships over the weekend with wins in matches played at the Mackenzie sports Club hard-court.
Raiders gained their fifth win of the round robbing competition by edging Kashif and Shanghai Kings 48-45 Sunday night with Dwayne ‘Brown Sugar’ Roberts scoring a team-high 10 points.
Centre Omar Sam also scored 10 points while Neil Marks chipped in with eight and Louis James and Alexander Rose each had six points.
Steve Neils Jr. and Orin Rise each had 13 points for the Kings while Marvin Hartman added nine points.
On Saturday, Amelia’s Ward Jets defeated Victory Valley Royals 75-49, for their third victory.
Ruel McKinnon led the Jets with nine points while Parrish Cadogan supported with eight and forward Javon Nelson added six.
The Websters, Shane and Allister each contributed four points.
Harold Adams led the Victory Valley Royals’ effort with 19 points
While teammate Marlon Pollydore chipped in with 13 and Alwyn Rodney, 10.
Also on Saturday, Block 22 Flames defeated Half Mile Bulls 67-53 to record their first win of the competition.
Aubrey Johnson and Devon Morrison scored 16 points each while Kellon Sullivan netted 12 for the winners.
Michael Turner with 19 points and Jason Blair with 10, were the top scooters for the Bulls.
On Sunday Half Mile Bulls shocked Victory Valley Royals 69-48.
Keon Cameron scored 24 points and captain Michael Turner 21 for the Bulls while Theodore Tappin with 19 points and Alwyn Rodney and Marlon Pollydore with 10 points each were the top scorers for VVR.
Saturday night at the same venue, Jets will oppose Half Mile Bulls while Kashif and Shanghai King and VVR will clash in the other encounter.
