Citizens Bank Guyana yesterday presented $250,000 to Help and Shelter to support the organisation’s efforts to decrease domestic violence in the society.
Uma Joseph, Audit Manager of the bank, presented a cheque to Help and Shelter’s Coordinator Margaret Kertzious as part of the activities to mark the bank’s 18th anniversary.
According to the bank’s Human Resources Manager, Denise Thompson, it has been supporting Help and Shelter and a number of other non-governmental organisations that are working to reduce domestic violence. Moreover, she said, since the bank is celebrating its
anniversary in the same month as Help and Shelter, it considered it a great occasion to offer the support.
Kertzious stated that Help and Shelter will utilise the funds for a programme that the organisation has been trying to cultivate for the last three years. The public education programme, according to Kertzious, will help to educate the public about domestic violence and also about the centres where persons can be aided if they are victims of violence.
