New Amsterdam man recovering from stab to eye, back

An eighteen-year-old New Amsterdam man is slowly recovering from the injuries he sustained to his eye and back, after he was attacked by a man.

When Stabroek News visited Yuwyn Ramalo at his Angoy’s Avenue home on Sunday, the man said that he is “coming around” though doctors have told him that they must wait until the swelling of his eye abates before further examination.

Ramalo’s alleged attacker, 24-year-old Anthony Pydanna was

charged with attempted murder and granted $300,000 bail by Magistrate Adela Nagamootoo at the New Amsterdam court. Anthony was ordered to return to court on December 10.

Dollet Benn, Ramalo’s mother, had told this newspaper that about three weeks before the incident the accused had allegedly threatened to kill her son. She said no report was made as they did not take the threats seriously.

According to Benn, Ramalo’s friends told her that the accused had asked her son to purchase a Guinness stout for him even though he had had one at the time. She said her son allegedly told Anthony that he did not have money and there was then an altercation.
