Gonzales, 27, of Lot 2 Hadfield Street, Lodge, was arraigned before Magistrate Sueanna Lovell at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court on the charge of unlawfully and maliciously wounding his uncle. He pleaded not guilty and was released on $20,000 bail.
It was alleged that the assault took place on November 7, at East La Penitence.
Attorney Paul Fung-a-fat, who represented the accused, said that the incident stems from a family feud over the property where Gonzales resides. He said Dailey was seen coming out of the house with a bottle of kerosene and Gonzales tried to detain him, but was attacked.
Dailey, however, denied the accusations. He said that he left his home and proceeded to the shop to purchase cigarettes and when he returned
he was confronted by Gonzales. He said Gonzales snatched him by his shirt, shouting “Look he deh here” and police officers at the scene arrested him and placed him in a police van. He said while he was in the van, Gonzales dealt him a cuff to his eyes, which caused him injuries.
The prosecution requested that since the two men were acquainted with each other, they be placed on a bond to keep the peace. Magistrate Lovell agreed that due to the circumstances outlined by both parties, they should have nothing to do with each other and be of good behaviour. She placed both men on a bond to keep the peace until the determination of the matter.
The case was adjourned until November 14, when it will be called at Court 10.
