(Trinidad Express) Former prime minister Basdeo Panday has said the political system in the United States shows us that “the head of State should be directly elected by the people,”.
Commenting on Wednesday on the re-election of Barack Obama as US President for a second term, Panday said he had long been calling for constitutional reform in this country so the people can be given more power.
“Our Constitution is in bad need of reform, if there were an election tomorrow, one party comes in and the other out and we carry on as we have in the past 50 years and the people will be without power.
The politics of race which I see certain members of this Government trying to promote again will continue,” he said.
