The competitions will feature all seven faculties and will also include a team from the Tain, Berbice Campus.
The tournaments will feature six to eight members on each team which will fall into group of threes via a draw, for the first rounds of competition.
The first two teams from each group will advance to the second round where the best team in each group will advance to the final.
The event which is partially sponsored by Digicel, which donated the dominoes tables, will see the winners coming out with trophies.
UG Sports Organiser Lavern Fraser believes the competitions will prove UG’s dedication to improving its overall sporting capacity as she believes indoor sports are as important as outdoor sports.
“I’m not comfortable with the fact that when persons hear the word sports they think run and jump, not recognising there are indoor sports. One of my goals here is to make sure that indoor sports become a part of the sporting system here and [along with] Dominoes and Whist, Scrabble and Chess have also been introduced to the university.
“However I expect good competition for the tournament and that the best faculty will be named when the tournament is over,” Fraser told Stabroek Sport yesterday.
