When the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) Noble House Seafoods-sponsored second division two-day competition continues this morning with four matches at various venues in the city, the Zone `A’ encounter between Third Class and the Police Sports Club at the Camp Ayanganna ground is expected to steal the spotlight.
In their last game the PSC side defeated an Ace Warriors team that surrendered without resisting arrest being bowled out for just 42 in their second innings as Police won by an innings.
Third Class, however, will pose a much more difficult challenge as they showed when they defeated the Guyana National Industrial Corporation (GNIC) side before playing to a draw with Transport Sports Club.
Randy Ramroop and Alvin Castello, who have both scored second innings centuries, will lead the Third Class batting while Castello and left-arm spinner Ray Bryan have consistently been among the wickets.
At the Gandhi Youth Organisation (GYO) ground, Ace Warriors will be eager to prove their worth against Transport Sports Club after a series of embarrassingly low totals.
Transport Sports Club, on the other hand, will be hard pressed for an outright win after conceding a draw in their last game.
In Zone `B’ Malteenoes Sports Club will face the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) on home turf at Thomas Lands, Queenstown in what is always a keenly-contested encounter.
Malteenoes currently languishes at the bottom of the group with DCC well-poised on top.
At the GNIC ground, the home team is set to play Everest Cricket Club. Both teams are coming off innings victories in their respective previous matches with GNIC’s Jermaine Grovesnor crashing 147 while Everest’s Javed Rasheed wreaked havoc with his left-arm orthodox spin.
Play begins at 10:30 a.m. each day.
Late flash! The game between Police Sports Club and Third Class at the Camp Ayanganna ground has been called off because the ground was not prepared.
