The local squad ranked 58th in the world will compete against some of the top teams in the Pan American region.
The line up includes top seeded Canada, ranked 23 in the world, Trinidad 27, Barbados 41, Uruguay 50 and Guyana and Venezuela both ranked 58.
The Guyanese will go into action tomorrow against CAC champions and host Trinidad and Tobago at the National Hockey Centre in Port-of-Spain from 3pm following the opening match between Venezuela and Canada at 1pm.
The teams will battle for three top spots available for the women’s World Cup scheduled to take place in 2014 in the Hague, Netherlands.
Meantime, the local players benefitted from a donation of uniforms from local construction company BK international prior to the departure to Trinidad.
Manager of the team Rawl Davson received the uniforms from office manager of BK International Mr. Bazilio during a simple ceremony at the Company’s head office on Mandela Avenue.
“The women’s hockey team has been making great strides in recent years and improving at every outing until their current position as one of the teams challenging for one of the three coveted spots in the World League second round,” Davson said.
The World League is a new global competition comprising of four rounds where teams qualify firstly out of their region and can go all the way to the Hockey World Cup being held in June 2014 in The Hague, Netherlands.
BK International said it was pleased to sponsor the team’s uniform and offered encouragement to the players ahead of their tough assignment.
After a busy 2011 where they unexpectedly qualified for the PAHF Cup in Argentina in 2013, the Guyana squad team resumed training in April 2012 with their eyes set on the World League.
