Defending champions Sudesh Fitzgerald and Hemwattie Arayan successfuly defended their titles when the National Darts Championships concluded last Sunday at the Clerical and Commercial Workers Union (CCWU) building.
Fitzgerald came from two games down to get the better of first time national competitor Christopher Fulton in the best of five games to win the John Fernandes Limited Trophy.
The games were close in all but the third game which was won by Fitzgerald.
In the playoff for third place, Sherwyn Greene got the better of Lalchand Rambharose by two matches to one.
The women’s final also saw another newcomer, Shondell Hyles matching the defending champion Amyan dart for dart. Amyan won the best of three encounter 2-0 to take the Dr. Terrence Joseph Trophy.
In the third place playoff, Christina Fulton won 2-1 from Jean De Souza.
Players were rewarded with trophies for outstanding individual performances with Fitzgerald winning the lion’s share of the awards.
He won prizes for the most 180s thrown, the fastest game (17 darts), and was also adjudged Player of the Tournament and Player of the Year while Greene was the winner of the highest checkout (148 points).
